Ana Gonzalez Joins 韦德1946, Will Work on Policy, Politics
Ana Gonzalez, for years a fierce advocate for immigrant workers at Workers Defense, has joined the 韦德1946 as Deputy Director of Policy and Politics.
Gonzalez will work with Director of Policy and Politics Emily Amps and other staff in the quest for a fair shot for working families in Texas.
“We are excited to welcome our brilliant ally Ana Gonzalez to the 韦德1946 staff,” 韦德1946 President Rick Levy said. “The 韦德1946 has worked in the trenches of legislative sessions with Ana and we have long admired the amazing skill and commitment to fight that she brings to her work every day. This is a huge win for working families in Texas.”
Gonzalez joined Workers Defense in 2015, quickly establishing herself as an important voice for immigrant workers at the Texas Capitol and in local governments. She participated in the United Labor Legislative Committee over several regular and special sessions, working around-the-clock to promote labor’s positions on legislation. She also worked with the Texas Building & Construction Trades Council.
Gonzalez helped lead successful local campaigns to institute earned paid sick leave policies and, as Director of the Better Builder Program, raised work standards for thousands of construction workers. Most recently, she was part of Greg Casar’s victorious campaign for the Democratic nomination to the U.S. House seat representing Congressional District 35.
“I am thrilled to continue my mission of building worker power across the state as part of the 韦德1946,” Gonzalez said. “I will do my utmost to help organize Texas working families for a better tomorrow.”
The 韦德1946 is the state labor federation consisting of 240,000 affiliated union members who advocate for working families in Texas.
